Butterfly & Iris
Watercolour
Kathryn Kelton
We feel the breath of the world, right under our fingertips.
The city clock glows, a light switch in the dream.
I sat down, wanting to write, wanting to tell.
Talking, I can do, paint you pictures even.
But I couldn't, not really.
And that's always the problem, isn't it?
When the chocolatey-almond brown comes almost close, but just isn't the same shade as her eyes. When that single extra hair in the paintbrush makes her smile too unbearably different that the picture becomes a lie.
When everything is almost,
but it isn't.
